While on the Family Court Bench, Judge Aldrich helped a couple to settle a 15 year old spousal maintenance dispute using "baseball" arbitration. Prior to the agreement to arbitrate before Judge Aldrich the parites had suffered through 12 motions before five separate judges.


 

Stephen Aldrich retired in 2010 as a District Court Judge in Hennepin County, 4th Judicial District of Minnesota. After 25 years of law practice, Judge Aldrich served in the Civil Division of the Court for six years and in the Family Division for 10 years, eight of those half-time.

A 1971 graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School, Judge Aldrich was the principal in Aldrich Law Offices from 1975 to 1997 and is a current member of the Collaborative Law Institute of Minnesota where he also served prior to his election in 1996. He has been recognized for his creative approach to resolving family disputes while on the bench, and in 2002 was recognized for his service to the public sector with a Pro Bono Publico Award.

  • Member for 12 years and Screening Committee Member for 5 years for the Ethics Committee, Hennepin County Bar Association
  • Served as Chair, Family Law Section, and Member of Executive Committee, Hennepin County Bar Association, 1985
  • Served as Vice Chair and Member for 8 years for the Charter Commission, City of Minneapolis

"Qualified" in Minnesota to provide all forms of Rule 114 ADR services in Civil* and Family law.

While on the bench, Judge Aldrich's civil cases included matters involving land condemnation, zoning, environment, consumer, accident and products liability, and business breakup cases.

Endorsed "qualified" by the Minnesota Chapter of the Academy of Certified Trial Lawyers of Minnesota (ACTLMn) in 1996 Judicial election.
